Jewellery care

All  Soul & Sapphire jewels are completely handmade by me, Kate, and set in 100% recycled sterling silver. They will also feature accents of recycled 9ct gold from time to time. I carefully hand pick each stone with the majority now being sourced in my new home of Mexico. Turquoise from the north in Sonora and Fire Opals from the mining towns of Jalisco. Each stone is completely one of a kind and some may include little imperfections but these are part of the uniqueness of each stone and the journey it’s already been on, sometimes for hundreds, if not thousands of years.

With the right care, your new treasure will last a lifetime but please do read below to see how to care for it correctly. Some stones are a little more delicate than others and following the tips below will ensure their longevity.

Water

All pieces should be removed before being in contact with water. Swimming, showering, even doing the dishes. If totally submerged in water some stones will change colour, this is especially true of fire opals as they are more porous than other stones. 9/10 they will change back to their original colour but I strongly advise to remove them just in case.

Chemicals

Please avoid contact with any type of chemical. Any beauty products or cosmetics such as perfume, moisturiser, lotions and potions should be applied before wearing your jewellery. Don’t forget hand sanitiser and suntan lotion too! Chemicals can be harmful to natural stones so please be careful.

Cleaning

Sterling silver naturally oxidises over time due to the oxygen in the air reacting with the precious metal. I intentionally oxidise most of my pieces to enhance certain parts of the design such as the beaded edging or the details on the back of each piece. If the entire piece becomes slightly tarnished and you would like to polish your new treasure then I have added a sunshine cloth with every order.

If you want to clean your piece without your polishing cloth then all you need is an old toothbrush, warm water and mild soap. Please keep in mind to avoid your stones when cleaning with this method as I explained above any chemicals, including soap, can be harmful to the natural stone. Then pat dry with a soft cloth.

Storage

When your new treasure is not being worn, please store it away safely. I’ve provided recycled jewellery boxes but also handmade sari bags that can be used to store your jewels. If you have a collection then investing in a jewellery box would be a lovely way to store your jewels (one day I’ll make my own!)
